Sir Winston Churchill on… Joseph Stalin

During the late stages of the second World War, Sir Winston Churchill used to meet regularly with the other two primary leaders of the allied armies, FDR and Joseph Stalin.

Churchill’s relationship with Staling was complex; they got on well as friends but their politics were world apart, and Britain was increasingly sidelined during the post-war plans.

Here, with typical candour and frankness, Sir Winston remembers one such meeting, in particular an exchange which neatly summarises the difficulties he faced having ‘the Russian Bear’ around the table.
